Milk Oolong is one of the loveliest surprises in tea: a Taiwanese oolong tea with a soft, creamy, almost milky character, and not a drop of dairy in it. The name comes from that natural sweetness and silky texture, which develop from the leaf itself. It brews to a clear golden cup, smooth and gentle, and sits somewhere between a green and a black tea in style.
Tasting Notes
The cup is smooth and rounded, with a buttery, creamy note that gives the tea its name and a soft floral sweetness behind it. There's a light vegetal freshness from the oolong leaf and a clean, lingering finish. It's an easy, comforting tea, delicate but full in the mouth, and it holds up well across several steeps, each one a little different.
Origin
Milk Oolong comes from Taiwan, where the cool, misty mountain climate and sharp shifts in temperature shape the character of the leaf. The tea is partially oxidised, the defining step of oolong, which places it between green and black tea and gives it that signature balance of freshness and depth. The creamy, milky note develops naturally through careful processing, with no dairy or flavouring added.
Brewing
Heat fresh water to 95 °C and steep 2.5 g of the rolled leaves (about one teaspoon) for 3 to 4 minutes. Oolong is made for multiple steeps: brew the same leaves again, a little longer each time, to follow how the flavour opens up.
