Beside Harrar and Yirgacheffe, Sidamo boasts a prestigious Designation of Origin distinction, making it one of Ethiopia's three trademarked coffee growing regions. This distinction comes as no surprise, given the region's optimal conditions – situated at elevations ranging from 1,550 to 2,200 meters above sea level, abundant rainfall, and fertile soil, all contributing to the exceptional quality of coffee produced here.
What sets Sidamo apart is the incredible variety it offers, resulting in a delightful complexity of flavors. Cultivated by dedicated farmers on small plots in the Shefina highlands, the coffee beans consist of mixed heirloom varieties, creating unique and distinct combinations. The extreme elevations, climate, and soil conditions provide the coffee plants with a longer growing period, allowing them to absorb more nutrients and develop richer, more robust flavors.
