About This Indian Black Tea

Ideal for tea lovers seeking a powerful and invigorating cup to start the day, its deep liquor and enchanting aroma will transport you to the heart of Assam’s tea gardens.

Origins and History of Assam Tea

Assam tea is named after the Assam region in northeastern India, along the Brahmaputra River Valley. It is one of the world’s largest tea-producing areas, with a unique climate that fosters the growth of Camellia sinensis var. assamica. The cultivation of Assam tea dates back to the early 19th century, when the British aimed to break China's monopoly on the global tea market. Native Assam tea plants were discovered by British explorers and quickly cultivated under the supervision of the East India Company.

Assam tea became famous for its rich, malty flavor and is often used in breakfast tea blends, such as the well-known English Breakfast. Its bold character makes it perfect for drinking with milk or sugar.
