The Family Behind This Coffee
The Alhamdani family is considered one of the oldest producers and exporters of specialized Yemeni coffee “Mocha”. Their ancestors began coffee planting, production, and trading as many as 130 years ago, in Bani Matar (Bao’an district).
Old Arabic correspondence letters shared between the great-grandfathers of Alhamdani and coffee agents from the Mocha and Aden ports are carefully preserved. Today, the family owns many acres of land and several coffee plantations specialized in producing superior quality Mattari coffee.
A Reputed Coffee
Yemen Mocha coffee is widely considered one of the best in the world, boasting rich ancient history and unique flavor notes that cannot be found elsewhere. The term “Mocha” comes from the port city of Mocha on Yemen’s Red Sea coast, historically a major coffee trading hub between the 15th and 17th centuries, still used for shipments today. Yemeni coffee grows on fertile lands, with natural tree cover protecting the beans from sunlight and rainfall providing the right conditions for cultivation.
