Warm, spiced, and a little bit cozy – masala chai is black tea the way much of India drinks it, simmered with sweet and savoury spices. Ours blends full-bodied black tea with cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger for a cup that's fragrant from the first pour. Add milk and a touch of honey and it becomes the kind of drink you wrap both hands around.
Tasting Notes
This is a bold, aromatic cup. The black tea base brings body and a brisk edge, while the spices layer in warmth – sweet cinnamon, floral cardamom, and a gentle bite of ginger. Flecks of safflower add colour to the loose blend. It steeps a deep red-amber and is at its best with milk, the classic way to round out the spice.
The Story of Masala Chai
In India, masala chai is everyday life – brewed strong on the stovetop with milk and spices, poured from roadside stalls and home kitchens alike. The recipe shifts from region to region and family to family, but the spirit is always the same: warm, comforting, and made to be shared.
Brewing
Steep at 95 °C for about 3 minutes – roughly 2.5 g (a heaping teaspoon) per cup, or one tea bag. For a chai latte, brew it strong and add steamed milk. As a black tea, it's well caffeinated, which makes it a good pick-me-up through the day.
