Superior Keemun Black Tea – A Rich and Distinguished Flavor Profile
Our Superior Keemun Black Tea is celebrated for its distinguished flavor profile and exceptional quality. Originating from the Qimen region in Anhui province, China, this tea is renowned worldwide for its unique characteristics and rich heritage.
Origin and History
The tradition of Keemun tea began in the late 19th century, around 1875, when Yu Qian, a local tea farmer in Qimen, Anhui, started producing what would become one of China’s most esteemed black teas. His innovation and dedication to perfecting the tea-making process led to the creation of Keemun, which quickly gained international fame. The name "Keemun" is derived from the phonetic pronunciation of the Chinese characters for Qimen, the town where it is grown.
Keemun tea was introduced to the Western market in the late 1800s and quickly became appreciated for its delicate yet robust flavor, making it a staple in many British tea blends. Its exceptional quality was recognized when it won gold medals at various international exhibitions in the early 20th century.
Culture and Production
Superior Keemun is made from the young, tender leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. The tea bushes are grown at high altitudes in rich, well-drained soils. The unique climate of the region, characterized by a temperate climate with distinct seasons, provides ideal conditions for tea cultivation. The production process for Superior Keemun is complex and includes several steps:
Harvesting: Only the young shoots and buds are hand-picked to ensure the highest quality.
Withering: The leaves are spread out to wither, reducing their moisture content.
Rolling: The withered leaves are rolled to release their natural juices and shape the leaves.
Fermentation: The rolled leaves undergo fermentation, developing the tea’s complex flavors and rich color.
Drying: The fermented leaves are carefully dried to stop the oxidation process and preserve the flavor.
