ARIEL Earl Grey Sapphire

Earl Grey Sapphire is a fresh take on a classic. Instead of the usual black tea, it starts with delicate Pai Mu Tan white tea and lifts it with the bright citrus of bergamot, the classic Earl Grey note, plus soft lavender and blue cornflower petals. The result is lighter and more floral than a traditional Earl Grey, a pale, pretty cup scattered with flecks of sapphire blue.

Tasting Notes

The white tea base keeps everything soft and smooth, mild and naturally sweet. Bergamot brings its familiar zesty, slightly perfumed citrus, while lavender adds a gentle floral calm and the cornflower a touch of colour. It's elegant and aromatic rather than bold, an Earl Grey for anyone who likes the citrus soft and floral rather than strong. The finish is clean, light and lingering.

A White Earl Grey

Earl Grey is traditionally a black tea scented with bergamot. This one reimagines it on a white tea base, using Pai Mu Tan, the delicate white peony, for a softer, more refined cup. The name Sapphire comes from the blue cornflower petals scattered through the blend, a jewel-like touch. Bergamot and lavender do the rest, balancing citrus and flowers over the gentle white tea.

Brewing

Heat fresh water to 90 °C, below boiling, and steep 2.5 g of leaves (about one teaspoon) for 3½ minutes. The lower temperature keeps the white tea soft and lets the bergamot and lavender come through cleanly.
