Few cups feel as quietly civilized as a good Earl Grey tea. Ours brightens the moment you lift it – pure Italian bergamot rising first, then the round, malty depth of whole-leaf black tea underneath. A touch of white tea softens the edges, so each sip lands smooth and fragrant. It's the cup for a slow morning, an afternoon pause, or the small ceremony of a pot shared with someone.
Tasting Notes
The bergamot is the signature – citrus-bright and floral, lifted by blue cornflowers scattered through the leaf. Underneath, the black tea base brings a smooth, full body and a clean finish. It takes milk gracefully and is just as lovely taken plain.
The Earl Grey Story
As the story goes, Earl Grey dates to the early 1800s, when bergamot was first paired with black tea for Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey – a gift said to have travelled from China. The blend charmed the British court and never fell out of favour. Our 1803 is a tribute to that classic, made with whole leaves and real bergamot oil.
Brewing
Steep at 90 °C for about 3½ minutes – roughly 2.5 g of loose leaf (a heaping teaspoon) per cup, or one tea bag. As a black tea, it carries a moderate amount of caffeine, which makes it a natural morning or early-afternoon cup.
