Coffee Prices are Spiking but Don't Compromise on Quality

Coffee Prices are Spiking but Don't Compromise on Quality

Why Are Coffee Prices Climbing So Fast? 🌍

As an avid coffee drinker, you deserve to know what’s really happening behind the scenes in the world of coffee — and most importantly, how you can stay ahead of rising prices without compromising on quality.

Because yes — the rumors are true. In the last 10 months, global coffee prices have more than doubled. For coffee importers and roasters like us, that’s an increase of around $6.00 per kilo, and for everyday drinkers, it means paying $8.00–$10.00 more per kilo for your favorite brew. This represents about 10 cents more per home-made cup.

Let’s break down what’s driving this surge — and what you can do about it. Here are the four big factors at play:

No. 1 - Booming Global Demand ☕

Countries like China have dramatically increased their coffee consumption, scooping up global supply and leaving less to go around.

No. 2 - New EU Coffee Regulations 🍃

As of January 1, 2025, the European Union will require that all imported coffee be shade-grown — an eco-friendly move, but one that’s causing ripple effects in the supply chain. Roasters are racing to stockpile beans from farms that haven’t yet adopted these methods (which could take 10–15 years to fully implement), increasing short-term pressure on the market.

No. 3 - Climate Disruptions 🌦️

Unpredictable and extreme weather — especially in Brazil and Vietnam, two of the world’s top coffee producers — has led to smaller harvests and lower yields. Coffee farmers have to invest time and money in finding ways to counter climate change.

No. 4 - Currency Challenges in Canada 💱

For our fellow Canadians, the weak dollar is making imported goods like coffee even more expensive than they already are on the global stage.

What Does This Mean for You? 📈

To keep bringing you the same high-quality specialty coffee you love, we’ve had to introduce another price increase this April averaging $3.00-4.00 per kilo. We’re doing this carefully and transparently — with the goal of minimizing the impact on you, while navigating some pretty tough market conditions.

Smart Coffee Buying 101: How to Save Without Sacrificing Flavor

Here’s the good news: there are a few smart, budget-friendly ways to keep your coffee game strong, even during a global crunch.

👉 Buy in Bulk (Like Our 3kg Bags)

Once you’ve found a coffee you love, buying in bulk is the most cost-effective way to enjoy it long-term. Why?

Because producing and packaging larger formats means fewer materials, less handling, and more efficient roasting runs — and that allows us to offer you a more competitive price per kilo. It’s a win-win: better value for you, and less environmental waste overall.

Buying a 3kg bag can mean real savings over time, especially with prices rising across the board.

❄️ Freeze Your Beans as Soon as You Get Them

Does it really work? Short answer: yes — if you do it right.

Freezing your coffee beans can preserve flavor, aroma, and quality for months, especially if you're buying larger bags. The trick is to freeze them immediately after opening, and only take out what you need — keeping the rest sealed and frozen until you're ready for more.

We’ve put together a full guide on how to freeze coffee the right way — including pro tips for storing, portioning, and avoiding freezer burn.

Take It a Step Further with Home Roasting 🔥

If you’re really into coffee and looking for the ultimate way to save — and have some fun along the way — consider roasting your own green beans at home.

It’s easier than you might think, and it opens up a whole new world of flavor possibilities. You get full control over your roast level (light, medium, dark — it’s up to you!), and you can experiment until you find the perfect profile for your taste.

Even better? Green coffee beans are more affordable and have a much longer shelf life than roasted beans — often lasting up to a year when stored properly. That means less waste, more savings, and fresher coffee every time you roast a batch.
