Our collaboration with AMO (Action main d'œuvre)

Helping others

On the day of a big winter storm in 2001 or 2002, a man walked through the door of Terra Café. Carlo, the founder and president, welcomed him.

The stranger mentioned that he was looking for a job. Carlo thought to himself that if someone came to ask for a job during such a storm, he certainly deserved to be listened to!

That's how Carlo learned about the Action Main d'Oeuvre (AMO) program.

What is Action Main d'Oeuvre program?

It is a program whose mission is the integration and maintenance of people with an intellectual disability or an autism spectrum disorder in the region of Montreal.

The people in the program are accompanied by advisors in making decisions along their path. In addition, the advisors ensure that the integration is done in a way that respects the person's limits and is durable.

Why we choose to work with AMO?

The fundamental value of Terra Coffee and Tea Ltd. is human well-being. In Carlo's own words:

"I would rather buy a machine to help the employee than buy a machine to replace the employee."

Does this choice involve adjustment and work? Yes, it requires adjustment at times. But, everyone ends up bringing something to the team.

Since that first employee, Terra has hired 8 people from the AMO program.
