Black Forest cake in a mug – that's the idea here. This hot chocolate takes Dutch-process cocoa and golden cane sugar and wraps it in the flavours of the classic dessert: deep chocolate, a brandied cherry note, the suggestion of cream and cocoa sponge. We blend it in Montréal, and it comes without milk, so the cup is yours to build – whole milk for something properly indulgent, oat or almond for something lighter. It drinks like dessert, which is exactly the point.
Suggested Uses
Save it for the evenings when you want pudding in a cup – after dinner, late on a cold night, or anytime a slice of cake feels like a step too far. For a mokaccino, stir a shot of espresso into the finished cup.
Preparation
Add 2 tbsp (15 g) of hot chocolate powder to 1 cup (250 ml) of hot milk and stir until smooth. For extra froth, fill your cup halfway with hot milk and stir to dissolve, then froth the remaining milk and combine.
